6169 Walter Plaskett (Pete) was a farmer and later a maintenance man for King City. He grew up to love hunting and fishing and the outdoor life, and remembered that he finally got over the mountain to King City when he was 11 years old. He said it wasn't much of a town. He was sent to Salinas to high school. In 1906 when his father died, he and his brother Jasper were heads of the family, and Pete took over Rancho del Quinado which had been purchased by the Mansfield family in 1890. He bought a threshing machine and for 11 years roamed the fields during harvest time with a 21-man outfit. Margaret Ramona Garcia was the daughter of J.J. Garcia who owned the San Bernabe grant at one time. She was a member of California Grandmother's Club 37, Royal Neighbors of American, Amor Rebekah Lodge, VFW Auxiliary, and Native Daughters of the Golden West. In the early 20's the Mansfields sold their Pacific Valley property to William Randolph Hearst and then bought the famous El Topo ranch which Jasper Mansfield operated. In 1929 they moved into King City so their children could attend the town school.
