    History David was baptized at a Mennonite Bretheren Church, Chortitza. The Nikkel's first lived in Marion County, and then Woodson County, Kansas. After Helen's death, David remarried and moved to Texas, where he homesteaded. In 1900 they moved to Colony, Oklahoma, where he farmed until his death. He was a regular Rundschau correspondent, and a passionate booster of settlement in Texas (Mennonite Historian Sep 2001 p2).
