    Health Died from “inflammation of the kidneys”. 
    History One record says he was born 23 Aug 1839. John and Agatha moved to Canada in 1870 from the Bergthaler Colony with 7 children. They spent their first winter in an earth shelter called a Semlin in the East Reserve. They moved to the west reserve and settled about 12 miles south of Winkler, Manitoba near the U.S. border in an area known as Reinland. They remained there until their death. Nine more children were born in Canada for a total of 16 children.
    Johann was born 9 Jan 1840 according to Blankenship (1995, pers. comm.) and Jacob Peters (1974). Records from Kay Loewen, reviewed by David Wiens (1995) suggest that Johann and Agatha were actually married on 15 September 1860.
