    Gender Male
History He was a minister in the Heubuden Mennonite Church in 1823 but had to step down from this position in 1836 due to an eye disease (B.H. Unruh, p. 382). He migrated from Prussia to Russia in 1840 (B.H. Unruh, p. 382). B.H. Unruh states that he initially settled in Berdjansk, but it seems much more likely that he actually settled initially in Gnadenfeld in the Molotschna Colony. The Mennonite Encyclopedia states that he moved to Berdyansk in 1845 where he built and operated a tread mill (Vol. 1, p. 276). The 1852 List of People Living Outside the Molotschna Colony indicates that he had moved from Gnadenfeld to Berdyansk by 1852 where he worked as a miller in 1852. In the 1850 Molotschna Colony Census he was listed at Gnadenfeld #57. He was the first elder of the Berdyansk Mennonite Church. B.H. Unruh, p. 382 says he was born in Elbing, Prussia. The Heubuden record says he came from Frauenburg at the time of his marriage to Elisabeth Woelke.
