    History Turner County 1876 p. 78. says he was born 10 Mar 1849. He became one of the early Krimmer Mennonite Brethren Ministers in the Dakotas and migrated to Salem, 6 miles northwest of Waldheim, Saskatchewan. His homestead was on the southside of the "correction line" road, across from the Isaac Joel Schmidt homestead. He donated his northeast corner of the homestead on which the Salem KMB Church was built and the Salem Church cemetery came to be and where he is buried. His reputation was that of a very studious man who put his sermon preparations ahead of the diligence needed in homestead farming.
    The Goertz' immigrated to Waldheim, Saskatchewan in 1899 from Freeman, South Dakota.
