History He was of Lutheran background. He lived in Bohnsack, Prussia at the time of his emigration to Russia in 1788. He arrived at the Chortitza Colony in July 1789 and was an original settler in Insel Chortitza (P. Rempel, p. 17). In the 1795 and 1801 Chortitza Colony Censuses he is listed at Insel Chortitza #6 (B.H. Unruh, p. 239). He was ordained on July 10, 1810 in the Old-Kronsweider Church. In the Oct 1816 Census he is listed at Insel Chortitza #5 where his family's census data as of 1814 is given. He transferred his home in Insel Chortitza, Chortitza Colony to his son-in-law Jacob Wiebe in 1847 due to his declining health per Odessa Archive, Fund 6, Inventory 5, File 70. The book Hildebrand Story by Isaak Klassen (b. 3 Jan 1899) #459403 on p. 16 states that Peter Hildebrandt was born in Tiege, Prussia but was educated in Broeske. On p. xi In the forward to the book From Danzig to Russia, Victor Peters (who was a great great great grandson of Peter Hildebrandt) states that Peter Hildebrandt was born in Broeske. The book Hildebrand Story on p. 15 says that one of his daughters married a David Penner who lived in Insel Chortitza. His daughter Sara Hildebrandt (b. 1817) may have been the daughter who married David Penner, who is likely David Penner (b. ca 1812) #198346. The Braun book calls him Jacob Hildebrandt.
