  • Name Karl JAEGER
Born 1 Jan 1783  Osterwick, Danziger Werder, West Prussia Find all individuals with events at this location
    Gender Male
History In the 1808 Chortitza Colony Census he is listed in Rosenthal among the landless where he is said to have come to Russia from Osterwick, Prussia (B.H. Unruh, p. 265). Karl Jager was a nurseryman and gardener and head of the nursery at Rosenthal. That he was from a non-Mennonite family is likely as there were few, if any Mennonites living at Osterwick, Danziger Werder in 1776. He was apparently well liked, as the Russian village of Osterwick was probably so named in his honor.
