    Notes
    • DeEtte was a neat person. She was born, I guess, to practically raise all her younger brothers and sisters. She was the kind of person who gladly did all the chores necessary to help Mother. We (Letty, Rhoda and Ruby) used her apron pockets at mealtime to slip our parsnips into - we hated them and it seemed like the easiest thing for Dad to grow. I can still see DeEtte ironing for hours on end. Under her tutelage though, we learned how to dust, do dishes, clean house and every other thing that a mother does.
Then sadness came into sis's life. She married a guy by the name of Clint Park, and in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 order, she had six kids. In due time her husband left her and shacked up with another woman in Oregon. He deserved the death he got, for it wasn't long until he died of cancer. DeEtte had a rough time - welfare was to be her lot until the kids grew up and married. She has some fine children - only one is dead, Lillian, who died two years ago. She spent the last 10 - 15 years in the Bellingham Convalescent Home. [8]

Since the Bellingham Herald a few weeks ago made a survey of Bellingham’s “big families”, showing that Charles Cox, popular driver at the Hotel Leopold, is the father of the largest Bellingham family, the suggestion has been made that Mr. Cox and his family be presented to the readers of The Herald. It is with considerable satisfaction that The Herald is able to comply with the implied request, and herewith presents Mr. and Mrs. Cox and their eleven children, all of whom were born in Bellingham. It also offers the suggestion that they deserve to be crowned as the champion family of Tulip Town.
