    Notes
    • Russell's narration will be just the opposite of Glen's. While we were the two little ones who played together and had our childhood fun, Russ didn't stay a child, but grew up. Time for a paper route. His constant companion was George Ludwigson and his brothers who lived down the street. They helped him learn how to drink beer, etc., and do all the unpleasant things that were displeasing to all of us. He quit his paper route and went to work for the Bellingham Furniture Factory. He was shortly fired from there for drunkeness. Mother's fury knew no bounds, and I'll leave it to your imagination as to what was done to him. After some time, he moved to Seattle and married a Vivian McPhillips. After some time, a beautiful girl was born to them, Margaret. A long story goes like this. Russ and his wife treated the baby cruelly, like scaring her with spiders, cutting her clothes, burning the bottoms of her feet, and more. Letty then kept Margaret for almost a year trying to undo some of the harm that had been done to her. She was sent down the road each morning to catch the bus for school. One morning, Vivian waited in a taxi and snatched her into the taxi. Margaret was a very frightened little girl. She has grown up now and has been married three times. How sad! Russell died in 1970, as did Vivian. [3]

Since the Bellingham Herald a few weeks ago made a survey of Bellingham’s “big families”, showing that Charles Cox, popular driver at the Hotel Leopold, is the father of the largest Bellingham family, the suggestion has been made that Mr. Cox and his family be presented to the readers of The Herald. It is with considerable satisfaction that The Herald is able to comply with the implied request, and herewith presents Mr. and Mrs. Cox and their eleven children, all of whom were born in Bellingham. It also offers the suggestion that they deserve to be crowned as the champion family of Tulip Town.
