History Came to America in 1876 on the SS Vanderland from Friedensdorf, Russia. Here Bernard had been a carpenter for 30 years. He may not have had close relatives in America. A brother, Heinrich, lived in Neuschoensee, Russia. His age is given as 43 on the ship passenger list in 1876, which is apparently incorrect.
