Obituary - Eleanor Mable Petker, 82, went to Glory to meet her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, January 2, 2011. She was born in Corn, Oklahoma, on November 17, 1928, to Barney and Anna Vogt. While still young, her family moved to South Texas, where she grew up and finished high school. She attended Mary Hardin Baylor College, and later Tabor College and Fresno Pacific Bible Institute. As a farmer's daughter, she knew the meaning of hard work. This ambitious spirit helped her to graduate from higher education with honors in education and theology.
In 1952, Eleanor married Daniel Petker and spent much of her life in missionary service in Mexico, and later as a pastor's wife in the USA and Canada. In addition to her teaching career, she raised five children who enjoyed her cooking, sewing, and generous hospitality. Her laughter was always contagious, her faith was inspring, and her favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
She is survivied by Daniel, her devoted husband of over 58 years, her children Arlene Franz and husband Stan from Yakima, Washington, Janice Meier and her husband Gunter from Phoenix, Arizona, Norm Petker of Livermore, California, Howie Petker from Vancouver, Washington, Suzanne Marinace and husband Peter from Algonguin, Illinois. Eleanor, known as Grandma Ellie, has 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, plus many close family members and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral arrangements were made by Layne's Battle Ground Funeral Home in Battle Ground, Washington. A Celebration of Life was held at Charter Oak Community Church on Thursday, February 3rd, 2011 and a graveside service on Friday, February 4th, 2011 at Crawford Cemetery.
